Raw Turmeric vs Powdered Turmeric for Face: Which Gives Better Winter Glow? (Pharmacist Review)

Should you use raw turmeric or powdered turmeric on your skin?

Turmeric with glow

We all love that bright, healthy glow — especially during cold winter days when skin tends to look dry and dull. One ingredient that never fails to make its way into winter skincare routines is turmeric. Known for its rich yellow colour and powerful antibacterial and antioxidant benefits, turmeric has been trusted for ages to keep skin clear, radiant, and healthy.

But here’s the big question: Should you use raw turmeric or powdered turmeric on your skin? Let’s break it down!

From Fresh Root to Fine Powder — What Changes?

Raw turmeric is the fresh root straight from the plant. It contains curcumin — the main active compound — along with vitamins and minerals in their purest form.

To make powdered turmeric, these roots are boiled, dried, and ground into a fine powder. This processing removes natural moisture and some of the beneficial volatile oils found in fresh turmeric.

Why Turmeric is a Skincare Superstar

Turmeric has natural oils that help moisturize and nourish the skin. Fresh turmeric, in particular, keeps more of its vitamins, minerals, and healthy plant compounds, giving your skin an instant glow.

Using the raw form also means you’re applying a more natural ingredient — without preservatives or colour enhancers. Turmeric gently exfoliates, clears impurities, and supports youthful-looking skin by fighting early signs of ageing.

So Which One Should You Choose for Glow?

If your goal is soft, hydrated, and naturally glowing skin, raw turmeric takes the top spot. Since powdered turmeric goes through more processing, some of its original goodness may reduce — and in many cases, there could be added chemicals to boost colour.

So for a truly fresh, chemical-free glow this winter, raw turmeric is your skin’s best friend! ๐ŸŒŸ

3 DIY Raw Turmeric Home Remedies for Winter Glow

Since raw turmeric is potent and fresh, it works wonders when mixed with the right kitchen ingredients. Here are three simple face packs you can try at home this winter:

1. Raw Turmeric & Milk (For Dry Skin)

Winter often makes skin dry and flaky. Milk contains lactic acid which hydrates the skin, while turmeric heals it.

  • How to make: Grate a small piece of raw turmeric to extract 1 teaspoon of juice. Mix it with 1 tablespoon of raw milk.
  • How to apply: Apply this mixture to your face using a cotton ball. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water.

2. Raw Turmeric & Honey (For Acne & Pimples)

If you struggle with winter acne, this combo is magic. Honey is a natural humectant (locks in moisture) and has antibacterial properties similar to turmeric.

  • How to make: Mix 1 teaspoon of crushed raw turmeric paste with 1 tablespoon of organic honey.
  • How to apply: Apply evenly on the face. Let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing. It leaves your skin soft and blemish-free.

3. Raw Turmeric & Curd (For Tan Removal)

Even winter sun can cause tanning. Curd (Yogurt) helps in brightening the skin tone.

  • How to make: Blend raw turmeric root with 1 tablespoon of fresh curd.
  • How to apply: Massage gently on your face and neck. Wash it off after 20 minutes for an instant glow.
  • How to Remove Yellow Stains from Skin?

One fear everyone has with turmeric is the yellow stain! Since raw turmeric is very strong, it can leave a yellow tint. Here is how to fix it:

  • Use Oil: Dip a cotton ball in coconut oil or olive oil and wipe your face. Oil removes turmeric stains better than water.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar: A mixture of water and apple cider vinegar can also help balance the skin tone.
  • Don't leave it too long: Never leave a raw turmeric pack on for more than 20 minutes.

Who Should Avoid Using Turmeric on Face?

Even though it is natural, it might not suit everyone. You should be careful if:

  • You have extremely sensitive skin: Raw turmeric is strong and might cause redness.
  • You are allergic: Always do a Patch Test (apply a little on your neck) before applying it to your face.
  • You have recent scratches: It might cause a burning sensation on open cuts.
